NATiVE Solar has been installing solar in Central Texas since 2007, from a 675 kW rooftop array at Clinical Pathology Laboratories’ Austin headquarters to off-grid systems in Wimberley. We engineer each system around the building’s actual load, its utility (Austin Energy, Pedernales Electric Cooperative or another provider) and how the owner wants it to perform during an outage.
We are an Austin Energy participating contractor, a member of the Amicus Solar Cooperative, and a licensed Texas electrical contractor (TECL-26718).

Austin Energy or PEC? Your Utility Can Impact Design and Economics of the Project
Most properties in and around Austin are served by either Austin Energy or Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC). The two credit solar very differently, and that changes how we size the array and whether a battery earns its place mainly on the bill or on resilience.

Austin Energy customers must use a participating contractor (NATiVE is one), and rebate approval has to be issued before installation begins. Third-party power purchase agreements (PPAs) are not eligible in Austin Energy territory.
PEC members apply for interconnection through PEC’s online portal. We handle the application and the site work, and design around PEC’s credit rather than assuming retail-rate net metering.

Federal Solar Tax Credits in 2026: What Changed
Federal incentives for solar changed significantly in 2025, and the rules now differ sharply for homes and businesses.
Homeowners. The 30% federal Residential Clean Energy Credit (Section 25D) ended for systems whose installation was completed after December 31, 2025. Home solar and battery systems finished in 2026 do not qualify. Austin Energy’s residential rebate, the Power Partner battery incentive and the Texas property tax exemption for solar are separate programs and are not affected.
Businesses and nonprofits. The commercial Clean Electricity Investment Credit (Section 48E) remains available for solar projects that began construction by July 4, 2026, or that are placed in service by December 31, 2027. Battery energy storage is not subject to that deadline and remains eligible for 48E on a longer schedule. Starting in 2026, foreign-entity (FEOC) sourcing rules also apply, which affects equipment selection. Eligibility depends on each project’s facts; confirm with your tax advisor.

Austin Solar FAQ
Do I need an Austin Energy participating contractor?
To be eligible for Austin Energy’s solar rebates and incentives, yes. You can hire a non-participating installer, but you give up rebate eligibility. NATiVE Solar is an Austin Energy participating contractor.
How does Austin Energy credit my solar production?
Through its Value of Solar (VoS) rate. Your solar production is metered separately from what you use, and 100% of production is credited on your bill at the VoS rate, whether you use it or export it. Austin Energy sets the rate and updates it periodically.
I’m on Pedernales Electric Cooperative (PEC). Does solar work the same way?
No. On PEC’s standard interconnection rate, your home uses its own solar first. Only surplus energy sent to the grid is credited, through PEC’s Sustainable Power Credit, and unused credits expire at the end of each calendar year. That makes system sizing, and sometimes a battery, more important to the economics.
Will solar keep my power on during an outage?
Only with battery storage. For safety, a grid-tied solar system without a battery shuts off when the grid goes down. A battery lets your home or facility keep critical loads running, automatically, until the grid returns.
Can you add a battery to a solar system another company installed?
Yes. We regularly add batteries to, service and repair systems from other installers, including companies that are no longer in business.
Can commercial properties in Austin use a solar PPA?
Third-party power purchase agreements are not eligible in Austin Energy’s service territory. Businesses there typically own the system and choose a PBI or CBI incentive. Property owners who don’t want to own a system can look at Austin Energy’s Solar Standard Offer Program.
What happens to my panels if hail damages my roof?
We detach and reinstall solar systems for roof replacements and repairs, and coordinate with your roofer. See solar panel detach and reset.
Is there a Texas property tax exemption for solar?
Texas offers a property tax exemption for on-site solar that may apply to qualifying installations. We don’t give tax advice; see the Texas Comptroller or our guide to the exemption form.
Is there still a federal solar tax credit in 2026?
For homeowners, no. The 30% Residential Clean Energy Credit ended for systems completed after December 31, 2025. For businesses, the Section 48E credit remains available for solar projects that began construction by July 4, 2026 or are placed in service by the end of 2027, and battery storage remains eligible on a longer schedule. Eligibility depends on project facts, so confirm with a tax advisor.
What warranty comes with a NATiVE installation?
A 10-year quality and workmanship warranty, plus manufacturer equipment warranties that typically run 15 to 25 years. To keep the workmanship warranty in force, NATiVE needs to handle any detach and reinstall of the system, for example during a roof replacement.
