With over 355 megawatts of installed solar capacity, San Antonio now ranks #5 nationally for total solar power, beating out much larger metros in the race toward energy resilience.¹ That’s not just impressive—it’s a clear signal that solar is a San Antonio thing.

Meanwhile, the City itself is leading by example. A new $30 million investment will bring solar to 42 municipal sites, cutting an estimated 12,800+ metric tons of CO₂ each year and saving millions in long-term energy costs.² It’s the largest municipal solar deployment of its kind in Texas—and it’s happening right in our backyard.

And it’s not just big public buildings. CPS Energy actively expanded solar, wind, and battery contracts throughout 2024 and expectations are that this will continue - even in a post-solar-tax-credit landscape. Pair that with community-scale battery pilots and virtual power plant rollouts, and San Antonio is quickly becoming a blueprint for clean, distributed energy across Texas.
